A blend of Nosiola, Vermentino and Malvasia. Dane has been a long time fan of Nosiola since discovering the Foradori rendition of the variety so when he found some sitting in a nursery vineyard in Australia he knew had to get my hands on some.

The vines were only planted in 2015 and there are only 3 long rows planted in the Mt Camel vineyard in Heathcote. In fact these are the only Nosiola plantings in Australia. This is also where the Malvasia and the Vermentino are grown.

The soils here are rocky and volcanic, and comprised mostly of Ironstone, dolerite and green jasper. These elements really show in this wine. It is minerally driven and has very “rocky” freshness to it. Macerated on skins for different days (10 days to 2.5 weeks). The handling of the Nosiola was approx. 2.5 weeks on skins, and the other varieties around 10 days.

Super aromatic and some texture from skin contact, but ultimately very fresh, complex and well balanced.

About MOMENTO MORI
Husband and wife team Dane and Hannah Johns are behind Momento Mori in the fertile oasis that is Gippsland, Victoria. Their ambition is simple: To make wines with integrity that he wants to drink themselves. The first vintage was 2013, and since then, they have in record time created a reputation that has made their wines some of the most sought-after in their category.

The grapes come from small plots scattered across Victoria, and they only work with farmers who fully share their views on biodiversity and sustainable work in the vineyard. In the cellar, they work extremely carefully and patiently with small cuvées, slow fermentations without any kind of additions, no use of pumps, no casks, no fining or filtration and absolutely no added sulphur during the whole process. Dane and Hannah believes that the addition of sulphur, even in very small amounts, is completely unnecessary if you have done your vineyard work properly and take your time in the cellar. The result is unmistakable. The wines of Momento Mori are vibrant, full of life and aromatic complexity while always exhibiting impressive purity and precision.
